Funds Available in Connecticut to Encourage College Readiness Activities |
State Initiative Seeks Local Organizations to Support Work With StudentsConnecticut's KnowHow2GO initiative is seeking organizations to apply for funds as part of a three-year grant totaling $140,000 from The Lumina Foundation for Education, to support efforts aimed at encouraging Connecticut students, especially low-income, first generation and at-risk students, to pursue a college education.
The purpose of the KnowHow2GO grants is to strengthen the quality of student assistance and outreach efforts to students and families. The KnowHow2GO Connecticut Network will accept applications for the funds from qualified organizations in Connecticut submitting applications by November 17, 2009. MLK Oratorical Contest - January 9, 2010The BSL Educational Foundation of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc., Greater Hartford Chapter and Travelers Insurance presents the 6th Annual Bro. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Young People's Oratorical Contest on Saturday, January 9, 2010 at Bethel AME Church in Bloomfield, CT. The theme is Faith's Role in the Life of Today's Youth, which address young people's use of faith as a support mechanism in surviving societal and environmental pressures and distractions on their journey to becoming productive and successful adults.

The State of Connecticut African-American Affairs Commission has been working with the United States Census Bureau and has procured use of facilities for examining applicants for upcoming part-time Census positions. The AAAC feels that it is vitally important that Census 2010 achieve complete and accurate counts in April when neighborhoods will be canvassed.
