  Internship Program

W

e are committed to empowering young women and men through practical work experience and mentorship. Our internship program is designed to expose women and men to the various aspects of the Commission's work and to legislative activity in our state. Part of the lifeblood of our commission, interns and volunteers are needed to continue the mission of the PCSW.

What would I do at the PCSW?

Past intern projects have included:

  • Planning and implementing Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day for the State Legislature

  • Writing, editing, and updating our Selected Highlights of Women's History publication

  • Drafting legislative fact sheets

  • Researching, charting, and writing our Facts About the Status of Women in Connecticut publication

In addition, one intern each semester will hold a position on the steering committee of and attend the meetings for the Young Women's Leadership Program.

Internships at the PCSW may be especially beneficial for undergraduate students interested in:

  • Women's Studies

  • Political Science

  • Psychology

  • English

  • Leadership

and for graduate students interested in:

  • Law school

  • Social Work

  • Public Policy

When can I work with the PCSW?
Although we are willing to work with any individual and their scheduling needs, we find that our internships typically mirror a semester schedule. Therefore, students usually intern for one semester, either in the fall, spring, or summer. Internship are only available during regular working hours. Evening and weekend hours are not currently offered.

I’m interested. What’s next?
Browse our Current Opportunities. If you are interested in a project or if you would like to intern, but don't see a project that suits your needs, please complete the Internship Interest Form and we will contact you about other options.

If you have questions, please email Lisa Sementilli.
