The General Statutes of Connecticut, revised to January 1, 2009, appear in several formats on the web pages of the Connecticut General Assembly. The different formats are designed to serve the various needs of our web page users.

Organization of the 2009 General Statutes

To select the best format for you, it is important to understand how the 2009 General Statutes are organized:

¨        Titles:  contain chapters, articles and sections of the statutes grouped in broad subject areas.

Example: "Title 14 – Motor Vehicles"

¨        Chapters:  contain sections of the statutes grouped in broad subject areas.

Example: "Chapter 248 – Vehicle Highway Use" (which is in Title 14)

¨        Articles:  (used instead of Chapters in Title 42a – Uniform Commercial Code), contain sections of the statutes also grouped in specific subject areas.

Example: "Article 2 – Sales"; "Article 4A – Funds Transfers"

¨        Sections:  contain the text of each statute.

Example: "Section 14-219 – Speeding" (which is in Chapter 248, which is in Title 14)

Abbreviations used in the Annotations to the 2009 General Statutes

The Connecticut Reports are identified by the letter "C.", the Appellate Court Reports are identified by the letters "CA", the Connecticut Supplement is identified by the letters "CS", and the Circuit Court Reports by "Conn. Cir. Ct." It should be noted that prior to Volume 1 of the Connecticut Reports, judicial decisions were reported by the reporters Kirby, Root and Day. For this reason, citations using the letters "K", "R" or "D" will be found among the annotations.
