HUSKY

HUSKY is Connecticut's health insurance plan for children. (The letters stand for Healthcare for UninSured Kids and Youth.) It offers a full health insurance package for children and teenagers up to age 19. It pays for doctor visits, prescriptions, vision and dental care, and much more.

When families enroll their children in HUSKY, they choose the doctors and other medical providers participating in one of several health plans. For most families, HUSKY is low-cost or free. But even families with high incomes can join at a group rate. HUSKY can also help parents, relative caregivers, and pregnant women, depending on income. Visit the HUSKY website

Medicaid Managed Care Council
The council advises the state Department of Social Services on
the development of Connecticut's Medicaid Managed Care program, which includes HUSKY. The council consists of legislators, Medicaid consumers, advocates, health care providers, insurers, and state agencies.

Enhanced Care Clinics address mental health
Connecticut children and adults covered by the HUSKY health care plan may use any of these clinics, which provide such outpatient services as individual therapy, group therapy, family therapy, and medication management. They are managed by the Connecticut Behavioral Health Partnership. Download a list of clinic sites (PDF) | Visit the BHP website | More on mental health
