"AN ACT REVISING THE PENALTY FOR CAPITAL FELONIES. "
After the last section, add the following and renumber sections and internal references accordingly:
"Sec. 501. (NEW) (Effective from passage) (a) Notwithstanding the provisions of this act, any person convicted of the murder of a person committed in the course of a home invasion, in violation of section 53a-100aa of the general statutes, committed on or after the effective date of this section, shall be sentenced to a term of life imprisonment without the possibility of release unless a sentence of death is imposed in the manner prescribed in section 53a-46a of the general statutes, as amended by this act.
(b) The provisions of this act applicable to a person who commits a capital felony prior to the effective date of this section shall apply in like manner to a person convicted of murder as provided in subsection (a) of this section. "
