AN ACT ADDING MEMBERS TO THE JOINT ENFORCEMENT COMMISSION ON WORKER MISCLASSIFICATION.

SUMMARY:

This bill increases the membership of the Joint Enforcement Commission on Employee Misclassification from five to seven members by adding the commissioners of insurance and consumer protection, or their designees. Under current law, the commission is made up of the commissioners of labor and revenue services, the Workers' Compensation Commission chairperson, the attorney general, and the chief state's attorney, or their designees. It reports annually to the governor and the Labor Committee on the problem of employers misclassifying workers in order to evade their obligations under labor, employment, and tax laws.
