REASONS FOR BILL:
To make it easier to find a residence in times of emergencies.

NATURE AND SOURCES OF SUPPORT:
Chief Anthony Salvatore and Chief Matthew Reed, Connecticut Police Chiefs Association testified in support of this bill, stating that the visible display of house numbers is of utmost importance when aiding police and emergency responders in locating those who are in need of help.
Ted Schroll, Connecticut State Firefighters Association testified in support of this bill, stating that on numerous occasions emergency service providers have had trouble locating those in need of help due to the absence of, or lack of visibility of, house numbers. There is an inconsistency that exists between municipalities regarding the ordinance pertaining to house numbers, so this will offer one uniform solution.
Paul J. Rapanault, Uniformed Professional Fire Fighters Association of Connecticut testified in support of this bill. He stated that placing house numbers in a clear, visible location on the homeowner's property can mean the difference between life or death when first responders are trying to locate the scene of an emergency.
