LEGISLATIVE BRANCH EXPENSES IN THE 50 STATES
| ||
By: Judith Lohman, Assistant Director
You asked for data on each state's total expenditures for its legislative branch on both a per-resident and a per-legislator basis.
The attached table provides the requested information. Per-capita and per-legislator calculations are based on (1) 2009 data (the most recent available) on legislative branch expenditures from the U.S. Census Bureau's annual survey of government finances, (2) state population data from the 2010 Census, and (3) the number of each state's legislators as of February 22, 2011 from the National Conference of State Legislatures.
