AN ACT CONCERNING THE CROSS-ENDORSEMENT OF CANDIDATES FOR PURPOSES OF MINORITY REPRESENTATION.

SUMMARY:

This bill creates an exception to the minority representation law that states members on a board, commission, or similar body represent the political party in which they were enrolled on the date of their appointment or nomination. Under the bill's exception, a board member who is cross-endorsed by at least two political parties and wins the election is considered a member of the political party from which he or she receives the most votes, regardless of the party in which he or she is an enrolled member.
