AN ACT CONCERNING THE REDUCTION OF CHILD POVERTY.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened:
That the sum of five million dollars be appropriated to the Department of Social Services, from the General Fund, for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2010, for grants to private and community organizations for the provision of any of the following programs targeting lower income families: (1) Work readiness for young parents; (2) employment search training and services; (3) promotion of positive father involvement; (4) adolescent pregnancy reduction; and (5) financial literacy. It is proposed that the department use results-based metrics to evaluate the success of each program and that grants to successful programs be renewed for two years.
