AN ACT INCREASING THE PENALTY FOR USING A CELLULAR TELEPHONE WHILE OPERATING A MOTOR VEHICLE.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened:

That subsections (g) and (h) of section 14-296aa of the general statutes be amended to increase the fine for operating a motor vehicle while using a hand-held mobile telephone or mobile electronic device from one hundred dollars to one hundred fifty dollars and to provide that fifty dollars of any such fine shall be remitted to the municipality in which the violation occurred.

Statement of Purpose:

To increase the fine for operating a motor vehicle while using a hand-held mobile telephone or a mobile electronic device and to require that a portion of that fine be remitted to the town where the violation occurred.
