REGISTERED SEX OFFENDERS BY TOWN OF RESIDENCE

You asked for registered sexual offenders' towns of residence as reported to the Department of Public Safety (DPS).

On April 17, 2008, there were 4,901 registered sex offenders residing in Connecticut, including offenders who were convicted out-of-state but living, working, or going to school here. Of these, 895 are incarcerated. The remaining 4,006 are living throughout the state.

The larger cities have the highest number of registered sex offenders. Lieutenant Sam Izzarelli, commanding officer of DPS' Sex Offender Registry Unit, attributes this, at least in part, to the location of shelters, which are primarily in the larger cities. The cities with the most registered offenders are: Hartford (511), New Haven (412), Bridgeport (262), Waterbury (255), New Britain (217), East Hartford (109), Meriden (105), Bristol (87), Groton (83), and Norwich (81).

Some towns have no registered sex offenders as residents. These towns are: Ashford, Bridgewater, Cornwall, Franklin, Goshen, Hartland, Kent, Lyme, Middlebury, New Canaan, Union, Weston, and Wilton.

Table 1 shows the number of registered sex offenders by town, excluding those offenders currently incarcerated.
