AN ACT ESTABLISHING A GRANT PROGRAM TO FOSTER COMMUNITY POLICING AND THE HIRING AND RETAINING OF POLICE OFFICERS.
This bill requires the Office of Policy and Management, within available appropriations, to establish a grant program to enhance the ability of large municipalities to (1) hire and retain qualified public safety personnel and (2) foster community policing that is proactive and responsive to the needs of neighborhoods and communities. Municipalities may use the grants to (1) hire additional police personnel, (2) increase police salaries, and (3) lease or buy facilities for community police stations. It is unclear, under the bill, what municipalities qualify as “large. ”
