AN ACT CONCERNING GRANTS FOR RESPITE CARE SERVICES FOR CARETAKERS OF INDIVIDUALS WITH ALZHEIMER'S DISEASE.

SUMMARY:

This bill increases, from $ 3,000 to $ 5,000, the annual amount of respite service grants that an individual can receive under the Department of Social Services (DSS) Alzheimer's respite care program. This program, which DSS runs within available appropriations, is available to an individual with Alzheimer's disease or a related disorder provided his or her (1) annual income is no higher than $ 30,000 and (2) liquid assets do not exceed $ 80,000. The DSS commissioner can require a co-payment but may waive it if it creates a hardship.

EFFECTIVE DATE: July 1, 2009
