AN ACT CONCERNING TEENAGE PREGNANCY PREVENTION PROGRAMS.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened:
Section 1. (NEW) (Effective July 1, 2008) The Department of Social Services shall establish, within available appropriations, a grant program to procure teen pregnancy prevention services utilizing program models that have been demonstrated as effective approaches to reducing teen pregnancies. Municipalities and not-for-profit organizations may apply for a grant to the department at such time and in such manner as the Commissioner of Social Services prescribes. The department shall give priority consideration in the awarding of grants to programs serving communities with the highest incidence of births to teens in the state.
Sec. 2. (Effective July 1, 2008) The sum of one million dollars is appropriated to the Department of Social Services, from the General Fund, for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2009, for purposes of the grant program established under section 1 of this act.
