CREDENTIALS ISSUED BY THE STATE
| ||
By: Daniel Duffy, Principal Analyst
You asked for a list of occupations for which state law requires its practitioners to have a license, permit, or other credential.
SUMMARY
Connecticut requires individuals in 108 professions and trades to have a license, permit, registration, or other credential to legally work in their occupation. The Department of Public Health issues credentials to practitioners of 46 different professions and the Department of Consumer Protection issues credentials in 39 different occupations. The departments of education, environmental protection, insurance, public safety also issue credentials. One stand-alone board, the State Board of Accountancy, licenses certified public accountants and the Superior Court licenses attorneys.
The following lists of occupations are organized by the department issuing the credential. The citation is to the statute reserving the occupation to credentialed individuals. The lists do not include credentials that state law requires a business to obtain. For example, the law also requires accounting firms to obtain a permit from the State Board of Accountancy.
