INTERFERING WITH INSPECTIONS OR INVESTIGATIONS

By: Christopher Reinhart, Senior Attorney

You asked for a list of statutes that have criminal penalties for interfering with inspections or investigations.

Using a list of statutes provided by the Judicial Branch, we found 28 statutes with criminal penalties for interfering with inspections or investigations. These statutes include general prohibitions on interfering with the General Assembly, specific provisions on failing to answer subpoenas from certain agencies, interfering with a peace officer, and hindering prosecution. The table below displays these statutes from the most severe penalty to the least.
