SALES AT FAIRS BY NEW YORK FARM WINERIES

By: Daniel Duffy, Principal Analyst

You asked if New York farm wineries may legally sell their products at events such as fairs.

New York farm wineries and wineries may apply for and receive a special permit to sell New York-labeled wine by the bottle at the state fair, at recognized county fairs, and at farmers markets operated on a not-for-profit basis. Permits are valid for the length of the event but may not last for more than one year. There is no permit fee. The use of the permit is subject to state liquor authority regulations (N. Y. Alco. Bev. Cont. §99-b (l)).
