AN ACT LIMITING LAW ENFORCEMENT ACCESS TO RECORDED INFORMATION IN "BLACK BOX" EVENT DATA RECORDERS IN MOTOR VEHICLES.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened:

That the general statutes be amended to limit disclosure to law enforcement officials of certain "event data recorder" information from passenger motor vehicles without a valid search warrant or the written consent of the registered owner, the owner's representative or a lessee with respect to any vehicle leased for a period greater than three months, and to allow limited disclosure of such information pursuant to (1) motor vehicle safety research, (2) motor vehicle service, or (3) subscription agreement.

Statement of Purpose:

To limit disclosure of certain "event data recorder" information from passenger motor vehicles.
