AN ACT CONCERNING TRANSITION FROM PRESCHOOL TO SCHOOL.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened:

Section 1. Section 10-14n of the general statutes is amended by adding subsection (i) as follows (Effective July 1, 2007):

(NEW) (i) (1) The Department of Education shall establish a system of formative assessments for students in grades kindergarten to three, inclusive.

(2) The Department of Education shall develop end-of-year assessments for students in grades kindergarten to two, inclusive.

(3) The Department of Education shall report, in accordance with the provisions of section 11-4a, on the progress of the development of the assessments, in accordance with the provisions of subdivisions (1) and (2) of this subsection, to the joint standing committee of the General Assembly having cognizance of matters relating to education.

Statement of Purpose:

To require the Department of Education to develop assessments for children in grades kindergarten to three, inclusive.
