AN ACT ESTABLISHING A RESTRICTED MAILING REGISTRY.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened:
That the general statutes be amended to specify: (1) The Department of Consumer Protection shall establish and operate a restricted mailing registry, which shall contain a list of mailing addresses of noncommercial residents who do not wish to receive mailing solicitations for the sale of consumer goods or services, (2) beginning January 1, 2008, mailings to residents of the state soliciting the sale of consumer goods or services shall be prohibited to a mailing address that has been placed in the registry, (3) the department shall notify residents about the availability of and instructions for requesting registry information, (4) the department shall include on its Internet web site information for residents regarding their right to be included in the registry and the various methods of being included in the registry, (5) administrative penalties shall be imposed by the department for noncompliance, and (6) a Restricted Mailing Registry Fund shall be created and fines and fees related to the registry shall be deposited into the fund to administer the registry.
Statement of Purpose:
To allow consumers to join a "no-junk mail registry" to reduce unwanted mail solicitations and waste.
