AN ACT RESTRICTING THE USE OF SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBERS IN CONSUMER TRANSACTIONS.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened:

That the general statutes be amended to restrict the use of social security numbers in consumer transactions with companies and vendors and to establish stricter standards under which Social Security numbers may be requested and used by such companies and vendors.

Statement of Purpose:

To protect consumers against identify theft.
