AN ACT CONCERNING WORKFORCE ADVANCEMENT GRANTS FOR LOW-INCOME STUDENTS.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened:
That the general statutes be amended to require the Board of Trustees for the Community-Technical Colleges to establish pilot grant programs at Gateway Community Technical College, Housatonic Community College, Quinebaug Valley Community College and Charter Oak State College to provide educational workforce advancement grants to low-income parents to assist them with the direct and indirect costs of education. Participation in the pilot program shall be limited to students who meet the eligibility requirements. It is further proposed that the sum of one million two hundred fifteen thousand dollars be appropriated to the Board of Trustees for the Community-Technical Colleges and one hundred forty thousand dollars be appropriated to Charter Oak State College for such purpose. It is further proposed that section 10a-72f of the general statutes, concerning current similar pilot programs, be repealed.
Statement of Purpose:
To improve access to college education for low-income families by providing grants to cover the direct and indirect costs of education.
