AN ACT REQUIRING ELECTRONIC DATA ENCRYPTION OF SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBERS.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened:
To amend the general statutes to require a business entity that contracts for the purpose of outsourcing jobs or tasks to utilize encryption to ensure the confidentiality of social security numbers such business maintains in electronic data files and to subject a noncomplying business to a fine of five thousand dollars.
Statement of Purpose:
To protect individuals' social security numbers from negligent or wilful disclosure.
