REAL ESTATE APPRAISER CONTINUING EDUCATION

By: Daniel Duffy, Principal Analyst

You asked for the status of the Department of Consumer Protection's audit of compliance with continuing education requirements (CE) by real estate appraisers described in an earlier OLR Report (2006-R-0713).

There are a total of 1,827 individuals holding credentials as certified general, certified residential, or provisional real estate appraisers. When auditing compliance with the CE requirements, the Department of Consumer Protection (DCP) found that 174 (9. 5%) failed to fulfill their CE requirements before renewing their credentials in May 2006.

DCP is completing the voluntary settlement phase. Most appraisers (106) entered settlement agreements with DCP and paid fines. There are 68 appraisers who have neither complied with the CE requirements nor entered settlements. DCP is sending summonses requiring them to attend a compliance meeting as the start of disciplinary proceedings.
