REVENUE FROM TOLLS IN NORTHEASTERN STATES
By: James J. Fazzalaro, Principal Analyst
You asked how much revenue is taken in from state-maintained tolls in Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, and Maryland.
The information below is for 2004, the most recent year for which we could find fiscal information for all of the toll facilities. The revenue information is only the actual toll receipts collected on the various facilities. It does not include other possible revenues such as concessions from service facilities, income from investments of toll authorities, and bond proceeds. Expenditure information for maintenance, operations, and administration of the toll facility is also presented for context. Expenditure data do not include costs for law enforcement, bond retirement and interest on debt, and any capital outlays for the facilities. The information was taken from Federal Highway Administration reports and various toll authority annual statements. Figures in the reports were presented rounded to the nearest $ 1,000.
