NEW ENGLAND CRIME RATES OVER FIVE YEARS

By: Christopher Reinhart, Senior Attorney

You asked for information on crime rates in Connecticut and the other New England states during the last five years.

SUMMARY

The Federal Bureau of Investigation collects offense data from the states as part of the Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) program. The most recent information available is from 2004. In the tables and charts below, we display data for the New England states from 2000 to 2004 on (1) each of the seven types of crimes tracked by UCR and (2) the categories of violent and property crimes used by UCR.

CRIME RATE FOR SEVEN TYPES OF CRIMES

Table 1 displays the crime rate per 100,000 people for seven types of crimes in the New England states during the five-year period from 2000 to 2004.
