| ||
By: Evgenia Misenzhnikova, Legislative Fellow | ||
You asked for information about the average mill rate, number of passenger vehicles, and average income for residents of the 33rd Senate District. We included 12 towns in our report: Chester, Clinton, Colchester, Deep River, East Haddam, East Hampton, Essex, Haddam, Lyme, Old Saybrook, Portland, and Westbrook.
MILL RATES
Table 1 shows equalized mill rate for the fiscal year 2003-2004, median household income in 2005, and number of passenger vehicles in these towns.
The equalized mill rate in the 12 towns ranges from 7. 93 in Lyme to 19. 36 in Portland.
We used equalized mill rate because it enables the comparison of mill rates in different towns by taking into account when they last underwent revaluation. “Equalized mill rate” means “the tax rate derived from the most recent available grand levy of a town divided by the equalized net grand list on which such levy is based as determined by the secretary in accordance with section 10-261a of the General Statutes” (http: //www. cga. ct. gov/2005/pub/Chap116c. htm).
Equalized mill rate is “calculated by dividing the adjusted tax levy, as presented in the municipality's Tax Collector's Report, by the Equalized Net Grand List” (Municipal Fiscal Indicators, published by OPM http: //www. opm. state. ct. us/igp/MUNFINSR/FI2000-04%20Final. pdf ).
HOUSEHOLD INCOME
The median household income ranges from $ 58,063 in Deep River to $ 85,742 in Haddam (Connecticut Town profiles as published by CERC http: //www. cerc. com/detpages/resources373. html).
The greatest number of passenger vehicles in 2004 was in Colchester–9,498, the least in Lyme–1,815 (Administrative Abstract Coding System, published by Office of Policy and Management, CT).
