CRIME STATISTICS FOR SEVEN TOWNS | ||

You asked about the number of crimes in major categories and crime rates per 1,000 people in each of the last five years for the towns of Ashford, Ellington, Somers, Stafford, Tolland, Union, and Willington.
The Department of Public Safety (DPS) collects offense data as part of the Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) program. UCR collects data for eight types of offenses known as the crime index: murder, rape, robbery, aggravated assault, burglary, larceny, motor vehicle theft, and arson. The table below displays this data for the seven towns from 1999 to 2003. The most recent statistics available are from 2003. More recent information may be available soon and we will update this report when it becomes available.

The table below shows the crime rate per 1,000 people in each of the seven towns from 1999 to 2003. We used the UCR statistic for the crime rate, which totals all the index crimes listed above but excludes arson. When DPS calculates this rate, it calculates the rate per 100,000 people and we have adjusted it to a rate per 1,000 people to respond to your question.
