"AN ACT CONCERNING DOMESTIC VIOLENCE. "
Strike section 501 in its entirety and insert the following in lieu thereof:
"Sec. 501. (NEW) (Effective October 1, 2006) (a) Any person who possesses a firearm, as defined in section 53a-3 of the general statutes, that is stolen from such person or that such person loses shall report such theft or loss to the organized local police department for the town in which the theft or loss occurred or, if such town does not have an organized local police department, to the state police troop having jurisdiction for such town, not later than seventy-two hours after such person knew of such theft or loss. Such department or troop shall forthwith forward a copy of such report to the Commissioner of Public Safety.
(b) If any person fails to make a report as required by subsection (a) of this section within the prescribed time period and the firearm of such person is subsequently recovered and determined to have been used in the commission of a crime, upon final disposition of the criminal action and notwithstanding the provisions of section 54-36a of the general statutes, such firearm shall be destroyed and any permit to carry such firearm held by such person shall be revoked by the Department of Public Safety. "
