Explanation
The amendment allows additional contraband items to be sold at auction rather than be destroyed, but the items must be auctioned off to individuals who have a valid permit to purchase such firearms. Firearm frames, receivers, or barrels that have been altered or defaced, and pistols and revolvers valued at less than one hundred dollars shall be destroyed. The amendment also states that inoperable rifles, shotguns, pistols, revolvers, and accoutrements such as magazines, stocks, and holsters may be auctioned off as parts.
The amendment could result in additional revenue for the Department of Public Safety, which shall be used to fund the state-wide firearms trafficking task force.
The preceding Fiscal Impact statement is prepared for the benefit of the members of the General Assembly, solely for the purposes of information, summarization and explanation and does not represent the intent of the General Assembly or either House thereof for any purpose.
