SB-105

AN ACT PROHIBITING THE SALE OF ELECTRONIC DEFENSE WEAPONS.

AMENDMENT

LCO No.: 4176

File Copy No.: 372

Senate Calendar No.: 271

OFA Fiscal Note

SEE BELOW

The amendment strikes the language of the bill and eliminates the associated fiscal impact. Instead, the amendment makes the changes described below.

The amendment makes it a crime for any person to intentionally fail to report the theft or loss of a firearm to the local law enforcement agency within a prescribed time period. Any revenue gain from criminal fines under the amendment is anticipated to be minimal. To the extent that offenders are prosecuted criminally and subsequently convicted or plead guilty, the state could incur a cost associated with incarceration and/or probation supervision in the community. On average, it costs the state $2, 150 to supervise an offender on probation in the community as compared to $35, 040 to incarcerate the offender (note that both figures include fringe benefits) .

The preceding Fiscal Impact statement is prepared for the benefit of the members of the General Assembly, solely for the purposes of information, summarization and explanation and does not represent the intent of the General Assembly or either House thereof for any purpose.
