General Law Committee |
REASONS FOR BILL:
To exempt holders of P-6, P-7, W-8 and W-9 licenses from continuing education requirements.
JFS removed original bills added language from Section 3 (d) (1) and left “as amended.”
RESPONSE FROM ADMINISTRATION/AGENCY:
Edwin R. Rodriguez, Commissioner for Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection (DCP)
DCP supports the exemptions in the bill. Oral and written testimony.
NATURE AND SOURCES OF SUPPORT:
Joyce Wojtas, Construction Industries Association. Inc. (CCIA)/Utility Contractors Association of Connecticut (UCAC)
Supports the bill because “…there is a vast difference between plumbing work and the underground utility work performed by a P-6, P-7, W-8 and W-9 license holder…Additional classroom training is not useful. In the underground utility business, each job is different and that is why one[on]-the-job training is the most effective method for this laborers' trade.”
She provided in her written testimony the descriptions of the license and training requirements used by the DCP, listed on the PSI web site. Oral and written testimony.
Cameron Champlin, U.A. Local 777
Stated he is in favor of the bill.
NATURE AND SOURCES OF OPPOSITION:
