AN ACT REINSTATING THE SUMMER YOUTH EMPLOYMENT APPROPRIATION.

Explanation

The bill authorizes the Office of Workforce Competitiveness to distribute $2 million to the five regional workforce investment boards for FY 07. The funds shall be distributed as follows: $650,000 to Capitol Workforce Partners, $450,000 to the Regional Workforce Development Board of Greater New Haven, $250,000 to The Workplace, Inc. , $450,000 to the Northwest Regional Workforce Investment Board, and $200,000 to the Eastern CT Workforce Investment Board. Each board shall have the option to allocate up to twenty-five percent of these allocations to the Summer Youth Employment program in each board's region.

It should be noted that the budget bill, sHB 5007, as favorably reported by the Appropriations Committee contains $4 million for Urban Youth Employment in the Office of Policy and Management. It is uncertain if these funds would be available for the costs contained in this bill.

The bill only addresses a distribution in FY 07 so there is no ongoing fiscal impact.
