LPN PROGRAM 2005 GRADUATION RATES
By: Soncia Coleman, Research Analyst
You wanted to know the location of state technical high schools and community colleges and whether they offer licensed practical nursing (LPN) programs. You also wanted the most recent graduation rates for these programs.
According to the Connecticut Department of Public Health, there are 15 state-approved LPN programs in Connecticut. (For further discussion of Connecticut LPN programs see OLR report 2004-R-0239. ) LPN programs are offered in 11 of the state’s 20 technical high schools, with private occupational schools offering the remaining four programs. The state’s 12 community colleges do not offer LPN programs directly. However, two community colleges serve as program sites for technical high school LPN programs. For the 2004-05 school-year approximately 81% of the 430 students scheduled to complete LPN programs in the Technical High School System completed their programs. Of the 430 students, 410 were enrolled in a 1. 5 year program full-time and 20 were enrolled in a two-year part-time program at Vinal Technical High School. Table 1 provides the 2004-05 graduation rates for the LPN programs in the Technical High School System and Table 2 provides a list of technical high schools and community colleges by county.
