LIQUOR CONTROL COMMISSION FINES IMPOSED FOR OFFENSES RELATED TO MINORS

By: Daniel Duffy, Principal Analyst

You asked how many fines the Liquor Control Commission imposed in the past three years for offenses related to selling to minors by farm wineries, cafes, restaurants, package stores and grocery stores.

FINES IMPOSED

Table 1 displays the number of fines the commission imposed (Fine (#)), the days of suspension imposed, and the total fine amounts (Fine ($ )) for offenses related to selling to minors for calendar years 2002, 2003, and 2004 by farm wineries, cafes, restaurants, groceries, and package stores. In the column identifying the type of permit, the number in parentheses states the number of permits of that type issued as of May 31, 2005.

The displayed data only relates to fines and suspensions finally imposed. There are pending cases originating in 2003 and 2004 that may increase the number of fines imposed in those years. For example, DCP conducted compliance checks in 256 locations in FY 2004, mostly in package stores, groceries, cafes, and restaurants. Of the 256, 66 face administrative action for selling to minors. In FY 2005, DCP conducted 213 compliance checks, again mostly in package stores, groceries, cafes, and restaurants. Of the 213, 48 face administrative action for selling to minors.
