You asked if any of the surrounding states allow state employees to purchase retirement credit in their state employee retirement plans for service they provide as volunteer firefighters.

Of the five states we researched, none allows state employees to purchase retirement credit in their state employee retirement plans for service they provide as volunteer firefighters. The states are: Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, Rhode Island, and Vermont.
