VEHICLES WITH LEGISLATIVE LICENSE PLATES
| ||
By: Mary M. Janicki, Director
You asked if there is any restriction on the type of a vehicle that can carry a legislative license plate. You want to know if a vehicle with legislative plates can have any commercial markings or advertisements on it.
Legislative license plates are not limited to any particular type of registration classification. There are no restrictions, either in legislative or Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) statutes, rules, or regulations, that restrict how legislative license plates can be used other than on a vehicle owned or used by a member of the General Assembly. The plates can be on any type of vehicle and the vehicle can have markings or ads, according to the DMV’s Lauren Hangland. The legislative plate is a supplement to the vehicle’s existing permanent registration. Its use is subject to any limitation on the underlying registration classification.
