USE OF VOCATIONAL AGRICULTURE EQUIPMENT

By: Judith Lohman, Chief Analyst

You asked whether a regional vocational agriculture center’s (vo-ag) equipment can be used for regular school maintenance or whether it must only be used for the purposes of the vo-ag program.

State law used to require that vo-ag facilities and equipment be used exclusively for the vo-ag center, but the General Assembly eliminated that requirement in 1997 (PA 97-247). Thus, under current law, school districts housing vo-ag centers can use their facilities and equipment for other students also, as long as the use does not conflict with the needs of the vo-ag program.

By law, the state funds 95% of the cost of building and equipping regional vo-ag centers (CGS § 10-65).
