QUESTIONS FOR STUDENT MEMBERS OF THE STATE BOARD OF EDUCATION | ||

1. As a high school student, what special perspective can you bring to the State Board of Education?
2. As a non-voting member, how do you plan to influence the board’s deliberations?
3. The Education Committee recently held a public hearing on a bill that would prohibit districts from requiring students and parents to pay a fee to participate in certain extra-curricular activities. What is your opinion of such policies? Do you think they are a reasonable response to financial pressures?
4. The legislature’s Education Committee has sponsored a resolution asking that the federal government provide a waiver from the No Child Left Behind Act for Connecticut and other high achieving states. Do you have an opinion on whether the act’s requirements, such as increased testing, are necessary in Connecticut?
5. What are the major issues you think the State Board of Education should address during your term?
6. How do you plan to communicate with and get feedback from students around the state to bring issues to the board?
