AUTOMOBILE INSURANCE RATES
| ||
By: Janet Brierton, Associate Legislative Attorney
You asked for an update to OLR 99-R-0291 (copy enclosed), regarding what the average automobile insurance rates for each of the Insurance Service Office (ISO) rating territories would be if the amount of premium attributed to a territorial rating factor was (1) 50% or (2) 10%, instead of 75%.
Table 1 provides the average automobile insurance rates by ISO territory for a 2004 model car using: (1) standard rating, (2) Connecticut rating (i. e. , 75% territorial factor), (3) 50% territorial factor, and (4) 10% territorial factor.
The rates reflect the minimum coverage required by law with deductibles of $ 100 for comprehensive coverage and $ 200 for collision coverage. Minimum coverage includes: (1) bodily injury liability of $ 20,000 per person and $ 40,000 per accident, (2) property damage liability of $ 10,000 per accident, and (3) uninsured and underinsured motorist coverage of $ 20,000 per person and $ 40,000 per accident.
Standard rating shows the loss experience of each territory, including all underwriting and rating factors, such as driving history, age, sex, marital status, and principal place of garaging. Connecticut rating limits the effect of the territory to 75%.
