DROPOUT RATES: 1999-2002

By: Judith Lohman, Chief Analyst

You asked for the statewide cumulative four-year dropout rates for the classes of 1999 through 2002. You also asked for a district-by district ranking of dropout rates for the Class of 2002.

The information you requested appears below. Data comes from the State Department of Education’s most recent annual report, Profiles of Our Schools: the Condition of Education in Connecticut 2001-02, published in April 2003.

Cumulative four-year dropout data for the graduating classes of 1999-2002 show a statewide decrease from 14. 8% for the Class of 1999 to 10. 8% for the Class of 2002. Cumulative dropout rates for the Class of 2002 in individual school districts (including four charter high schools and the state vocational-technical school system) range from zero in Avon, Litchfield, Weston, and Region 14 (Bethlehem and Woodbury) to 43. 8% for the Explorations Charter School in Winsted. The median is 7. 4%
