RENEWING GUN PERMIT

By: Veronica Rose, Principal Analyst

You want to know if the law requires an applicant renewing a gun permit to do so in person.

Neither the law nor agency regulations describe procedures for renewing gun permits, which are valid for five years. But State Police policy requires in-state applicants to appear in person either at the State Police headquarters or at Troop G in Bridgeport. The former is located at 1111 Country Club Road, Middletown, CT. 06457. The latter is at 149 Prospect Street, Bridgeport, CT. 06604.

Out-of-state applicants may mail in applications to the State Police headquarters in Middletown. (A copy of the application and renewal instructions is attached.)
