You asked what is the average age of inmates entering the Department of Correction during the past few years generally, and for certain offenses.

Table One shows the average age of people admitted to the Department of Correction for each year from 1996 through 2002. The table shows that the average age for all admittees increased from 29.4 years of age in 1996 to 31.3 in 2002. For males, it increased from 29.2 to 31; for females, it increased from 31.3 to 32.7. These figures include sentenced as well as accused inmates.
