You asked for recent statistics on Connecticut’s prison population including the overall incarcerated and supervised population, the pretrial population, and a breakdown of the prison population by race and by offense.
On September 1, 2003, the Department of Correction (DOC) held 19,090 inmates in incarceration and supervised a total of 24,607. Of the incarcerated population, 18% or 3,499 inmates were pretrial inmates held before trial or sentencing.
The chart below shows the breakdown of the incarcerated and supervised population by race.
