You asked whether automobile insurance of $ 100,000 and $ 300,000 and $ 250,000 and $ 500,000 is available in the state, whether you can buy an umbrella policy with these limits, and what the cost difference is for the higher limits of liability policy.
According to Judy Thibodeau, Property and Casualty Division director of the Insurance Department, automobile insurance with bodily injury limits of liability of $ 100,000 per person and $ 300,000 per occurrence is available in the state. Dual limits of liability of $ 250,000 per person and $ 500,000 per occurrence, as well as combined limit policies of $ 500,000 are also available.
The Connecticut Assigned Risk Plan, the plan that offers insurance to vehicle owners who are unable to get insurance on the voluntary market, and nonstandard auto insurers (insurers that cover “high risk” drivers) do not offer the higher limits of liability of $ 500,000. Their top limit is $ 100,000 and $ 300,000.
Thibodeau say that the $ 250,000 per person and $ 500,000 per occurrence policy cost about 7. 75% more than the $ 100,000 per person and $ 300,000 per occurrence policy.
Thibodeau also states that most insurers will offer an umbrella policy in conjunction with a $ 250,000/$ 500,000 or higher liability limit automobile policy.
