Municipal Impact:
None
Explanation
Disallowing the use of steel jaw or padded steel claw leg hold animal traps will result in a loss of revenue to the General Fund and the Environmental Conservation Fund of the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP)
. Currently,
there are approximately 400 licensed trappers. Licenses are $25 each. These traps are the predominant type of traps used. The associated revenue loss is estimated at less than $10,
000 a year. An additional revenue loss estimated at $8,
000-$10,
000 a year (based on past history)
from leasing trapping rights on property is also anticipated. To the extent that wildlife management plans are developed for various management areas,
the revenue loss could decrease in future years. Adoption of plans for management areas would minimally increase the workload of the DEP.
