AN ACT ADDRESSING THE SCHOOL ADMINISTRATOR SHORTAGE

SUMMARY:

This bill requires (1) the Department of Higher Education (DHE) to consult with the Department of Education (SDE) and establish, within available appropriations, a pilot alternate route to certification program for school administrators that includes mentored apprenticeships and (2) SDE to consult with DHE and develop a plan for a beginning administrator support and assessment program to train school administrators. The education commissioner must report on the plan to the Education and Higher Education and Employment Advancement committees by February 1, 2004. The report must include information on the funding necessary to implement the plan.
