REGIONAL EDUCATIONAL SERVICE CENTERS
By: Jennifer Gelb, Research Attorney
You asked (1) how many regional educational services centers (RESC) there are in Connecticut, (2) where they are located, and (3) what technology curriculum they offer teachers.
Connecticut has six RESCs: (1) Area Cooperative Educational Services (ACES) in North Haven, (2) Capitol Region Education Council (CREC) in Hartford, (3) Cooperative Education Services (CES) in Trumbull, (4) EASTCONN in North Windham, (5) Education Connection in Litchfield, and (6) LEARN in Old Lyme.
All of the RESCs provide technology professional development opportunities for local teachers. We have enclosed information about each program. ACES has a Professional Development Technology Group that provides technology services to districts and helps educators use technology to implement their curriculum. CREC's Curriculum & Professional Development Service offers districts technology assistance, training, and professional development. CES operates the Center for Teaching and Learning with Technology, which assists teachers and districts in understanding how to effectively use technology in the classroom.
EASTCONN offers six technology programs and services for teachers and schools: (1) assistive technology services for working with disabled students, (2) technology curriculum integration, (3) technology development services to help schools manage technology in cost-effective ways, (4) technology plan development to help districts plan to effectively purchase and use technology, (5) technology tools to train educators in using available technology, and (6) training in the administrative applications of technology. Education Connection has an Instructional Technology Group to train and support educators and help districts purchase technology-related materials. LEARN offers teachers technology training, coaching, consulting, and help with planning and configuration.
