PROPOSED LEGISLATION CONCERNING A ROUTE 6 "GREENWAY"
By: James F. Fazzalaro, Research Analyst
You asked if there have been any recent bills introduced proposing to create a Route 6 "Greenway" along Route 6 and the Hop River.
No such legislation appears to have been proposed in the last eight legislative sessions. Since the 1995 session, the only bill proposing any special treatment for Route 6 was HB 5816 in 1999. It would have authorized the Department of Transportation to donate over 100 acres of land to a nonprofit corporation as part of developing a Route 6 parkway "in order to protect, preserve, and enhance the current and future ecological and environmental habitats within a conservation trust. " The Transportation Committee held a subject matter public hearing for HB 5816 on February 1, 1999, but took no further action on the bill.
